Art's Birthday
Written by admin
Mill creatives was delighted to be part of the celebrations this Sunday 17th of January, as we said a very happy birthday to Art.

Art's Birthday is an annual event first proposed in 1963 by French artist Robert Filliou, when he suggested that 1,000,000 years ago, there was no art. In fact that on one day, the 17th of January to be precise, Art was born. So according to this, Art will be 1,000,047 years old on 17 January 2010.

The Northern Art Prize
Written by admin
UPDATE: Winner is announced! Read the guardian article here and look out for more coming soon on mill's website.

The Northern Art Prize

The Northern Art prize is open to all professional artists from all mediums of art, as long as they are working and living in the North.
To be honest, to say that it’s open to any professional artist is a bit of a fib really, because applicants have to be nominated. And not just nominated by any old one: it tends to be gallery owners, directors, those working in the Arts and similar.

It works likes this; the panel of judges for the prize winner selects who and where the nominations are coming from i.e. said directors, gallery owners and such. The chosen nominators each get to nominate two artists each. A total of 24 applicants are put forward, then the panel of judges, which is drawn from the national visual arts sector, decides on a lucky four - who go on to compete for the winning prize.

Written by admin
An empty house in an inner city neighbourhood, transformed into a blank canvas for budding artists of the future, has been nominated for an award.

The work by young people from a Leeds inner-city neighbourhood is now brightening up bin yards in Richmond Hill's streets of back-to-backs – and the scheme has been short-listed for a northern regional accolade.
