Empty house nominated for Arts Award
Written by admin
An empty house in an inner city neighbourhood, transformed into a blank canvas for budding artists of the future, has been nominated for an award.

The work by young people from a Leeds inner-city neighbourhood is now brightening up bin yards in Richmond Hill's streets of back-to-backs – and the scheme has been short-listed for a northern regional accolade.

Festival of Abundance: Bradford Playhouse Relaunch
Written by admin
Exciting changes are afoot at the Bradford Playhouse.

The 13th of October sees the launch of its new bar and artistic programme. It will then be open every Tuesday to Saturday evening from that moment on.

During the first week they'll be celebrating a 'Festival of Abundance' which will involve installations, music, parades and performances all to do with the 'common wealth'. ' Celebrating what comes from the ground to feed us and all the common wealth we have in terms of ideas, love, creativity and hope'

The new programme is all based around freedom - freedom to wander around the building, no one act dominating the space, an emphasis on having fun and having somewhere in Bradford to have a good drink and a good time whilst you're at it.

Light Night '09 Breaking boundaries Making new
Written by admin
LightNightOfficalLRA massive thanks to all those who answered our 'Possibly the best poster brief you'll ever get' . We're sorry you've had to wait so long to find out where you can see your poster designs out in public but think the wait was worth it.

Light Night is an established event in the creative calender nationwide. Bringing big names in art, visitors and upcoming artists together to experience a one night only of creative flux.

Light Night has got to be one of the coolest council run events Leeds sees each year. This year's event on the 9th of October includes your posters covering one of the advertising drums on The Headrow.

Turning the drum into and outdoor gallery space to show the responses to 'Possibly the best poster brief you'll ever get': a brief set by the mill team to base an advertising poster on ‘a movement in art’ , we hope to encourage more multidisciplinary creative practice and hopefully provoke comment about the lines commonly drawn between creative disciplines.

SelectionLRMaking the drum into a curated display of our members responses to the brief in this way will also broaden the experience of exhibition, bring it to a wider audience and challenge categorisation of art.

Alongside the drum turned gallery on Light Night Leeds, we will also be hosting some perfomances in Hyde Park. We've got poets, authors and musicians stepping up to the challenge of creating new and unique forms of art by meeting and performing alongside each other for the first time on the night!
