Light Night '09 Breaking boundaries Making new
Written by admin
LightNightOfficalLRA massive thanks to all those who answered our 'Possibly the best poster brief you'll ever get' . We're sorry you've had to wait so long to find out where you can see your poster designs out in public but think the wait was worth it.

Light Night is an established event in the creative calender nationwide. Bringing big names in art, visitors and upcoming artists together to experience a one night only of creative flux.

Light Night has got to be one of the coolest council run events Leeds sees each year. This year's event on the 9th of October includes your posters covering one of the advertising drums on The Headrow.

Turning the drum into and outdoor gallery space to show the responses to 'Possibly the best poster brief you'll ever get': a brief set by the mill team to base an advertising poster on ‘a movement in art’ , we hope to encourage more multidisciplinary creative practice and hopefully provoke comment about the lines commonly drawn between creative disciplines.

SelectionLRMaking the drum into a curated display of our members responses to the brief in this way will also broaden the experience of exhibition, bring it to a wider audience and challenge categorisation of art.

Alongside the drum turned gallery on Light Night Leeds, we will also be hosting some perfomances in Hyde Park. We've got poets, authors and musicians stepping up to the challenge of creating new and unique forms of art by meeting and performing alongside each other for the first time on the night!

Some of this is in conjunction with Unity Day, together we'll be located at a site near the Hyde Park tennis courts. Which, for one night only will become a hive of performance from some of the cities most promising artists.  We're living and learning with bringing opportunties to our members and are happy that over 50% of the performances will be from mill given this our first event of this style. There will also be a selection of wicked after parties to attend, we'd suggest raisetheroof's wonkaland but you can see full listings soon in our events section.

Mill is not for profit and as yet unfunded so donations from all are welcomed with thanks no matter how big or small. Support us here
